Speeder: a police radar for SA:MP

In March 2019, police players on SA:MP servers had one paid way to measure speed: the radar from the premium version of MVDHelper. I made a free one, Speeder. The thread on BLAST.HK went up on March 15, 2019, and in the header I signed it as Pakulichev (Pavel_Garson), the nick I played police under back then.

What it shows#

The radar looks at the car directly in front of your character and displays:

• its speed;
• the driver's nick and ID;
• the distance to it.

Most servers don't have a separate license plate system, so the "plate number" on the radar is built from fixed letters and the player's ID.

Installation#

You need CLEO 4, SAMPFUNCS and MoonLoader 0.26. Drop speed.luac into the moonloader folder and type /speeder in the game. Once it starts, the chat shows [SPEEDER] Скрипт инициализирован ("script initialized").

The radar was only ever distributed compiled. Targeting MoonLoader 0.26 was a deliberate choice: MVDHelper only worked properly on 0.25.

Versions#

In December 2020 I wrote in the thread that the source code was lost. That's why v3 stayed the final version.

Connection to Police Tools#

Speeder is a separate script, but it grew out of the same goal as Police Tools: taking the routine off players in the police factions of Advance RP and other RP servers.
