# Police Tools – a helper for police factions

**Police Tools** is a free cross-platform helper for players in police factions on **SA:MP** role-play servers, primarily **Advance RP** (Advance RolePlay). I started it in **late 2017**, when I was only just learning Lua, and kept developing it for several years.

"Cross-platform" here means two things: the script runs on different operating systems and on different RP servers – besides Advance RP, for example Diamond RP and Arizona RP.

## What it automates

A police officer on an RP server repeats the same actions over and over: RP actions (first-person roleplay emotes), radio reports, document checks, processing arrests, looking people up in the wanted database. Police Tools handles most of that routine, so the player can pay more attention to the game itself.

## Features

- **Key binder with tags**: RP actions and commands on a key press, with your nickname, ID and time filled in automatically.
- Automatic RP actions when you switch weapons.

Most users came over from MVDHelper, a paid competitor: Police Tools offered similar features for free. The script was pinned in the police (MVD) section of the Advance RP forum.

## Open source

On **January 1, 2019** I published the Police Tools source code on BLAST.HK. The file was almost 550 KB: about **10,000 lines of code** plus roughly **3,000 lines of comments**. I released it for educational purposes, as an example of a large MoonLoader project with ImGui, HTTP, configs, dialogs and a key binder architecture.

## Police radar

In March 2019, separately from the main script, I released a **police radar** modelled on the one in MVDHelper's premium version. It measures vehicle speed with the `/speeder` command. There were three versions; the third was downloaded almost 1,200 times.
